Michael Manley – Heathermount Learning Centre
Michael chose to be photographed on the Temple in the Heathermount
grounds because it is one of his favourite places to play. The Temple is a wooden
structure designed to encourage imaginative play; it has a climbing wall on
the outside, and inside is a play area with ropes.
Michael started at Heathermount, the Trust’s school for children
with autism, in 2003, aged 8. He has always shown an aptitude for dance and
drama and has participated in Heathermount’s performances of The Tempest
and Macbeth as part of the Shakespeare for Schools festival in 2007 and 2008.
Michael enjoys the vocational curriculum at Heathermount, particularly
catering and horticulture. He is a real team player and often demonstrates leadership
skills!
Out of school Michael does street dancing and drama and has appeared
in public performances in several venues including the Hexagon Theatre in Reading.
