Lance Corporal Chris Ashton – previously at Goole
Chris chose to be photographed in the grounds of the hospital
because he remembers watching football there during his recovery and has fond
memories of this location.
Chris was a soldier in the Logistic Corps attached to the Black
Watch. He was deployed on Operation telic 9 to Iraq where he was injured in
January 2007; he lost an eye and sustained serious head injuries.
Chris was transferred to Goole Neuro-Rehabilitation Centre in
December 2007. He had reconstructive surgery; was treated by the lead psychologist
and received intensive physiotherapy. Chris’ aim was to walk again and,
through his own determination, he has achieved this. He made excellent progress
through his rehabilitation programme and is now back home living independently
in Hull with his father as his carer. He is attending work placements and going
to the gym.
