Jenny Ruddock – Terry Yorath House
Jenny has cerebral palsy and is deaf. She comes from a large
family and was looked after by her parents until she decided to come to Terry
Yorath House in 1992 because she wanted to be more independent.
Jenny chose to be photographed in the cafe at the Deafblind Unit
at Centenary House in Leeds as this is one of her favourite places to meet her
friends. She has become involved in the community panel at the centre and supports
things that need changing in Centenary House.
Since being at Terry Yorath House, Jenny has become a lot more
sociable and independent. She interacts with the community and has made lots
of friends. She has her own bedroom as part of the unit but has developed cooking
and budgeting skills, uses the laundry and deals with her own domestic tasks.
