Ian (Nick) Haley – Community Services
Nick has been photographed at the Spar shop getting his morning
paper. He chose this place because he saw the daily trip as his lifeline and
it helped his ongoing recovery. This was an important accomplishment to him
as it had taken a long time to reach this stage in his rehabilitation.
Nick sustained a traumatic brain injury in 2005, which affected
his memory and his ability to retain new information. Anything new has to be
learned repetitively and when going out he would become disorientated and would
forget the route. However, through his own determination and a repetitive learning
method, Nick was able to achieve this.
Nick was at Daniel Yorath House for just over a year. Through
his rehabilitation he has established a daily routine that has enabled him to
move to supported living in the community, where he will continue to achieve
more independence.
