Ernest Kleinwort Court is a
residential home in Sussex for people with physical disabilities run by The Disabilities
Trust.
The service offers a range of accommodation and care packages
for 35 adults with physical disabilities. There are seven independent
flats, two bungalows and 22 private bedrooms in this single story, purpose
built unit.

Each private bedroom has en-suite bathroom and toilet facilities,
a lockable front door, call system and use of a hoist, if required. Assisted
bathrooms are available if necessary. There is a central communal garden where
residents enjoy social events, a large lounge, dining room and activity centre.

activities and education
The garden is the focus for many communal
activities including, in the summer, popular barbecues. The
activity centre offers a wide range of creative and educational
opportunities, including computer skills, art and crafts,
literacy and numeracy.
Regular trips are arranged to the sports and leisure centre in
nearby Burgess Hill and the staff help to organise outings to colleges, shows,
concerts and sporting events.
The seven specially adapted flats are provided
for people who wish to gain or further their independent living skills. Goals
are set and skill acquisition programmes designed to prepare people for an eventual
move to supported, community based living.
Our in-house care can be complemented by local
physiotherapy, occupational therapy and chiropody services.

local facilities
The home is situated in mid-Sussex, between the beautiful
North and South Downs, in the fast growing commercial and residential town of
Burgess Hill. The flat, wheelchair accessible, town centre contains a pedestrianised
shopping area and covered market alongside a theatre, parks and other entertainment.
London, Gatwick Airport and the seaside resort of Brighton
are easily accessible by road or rail from Burgess Hill. The M25 is only half
an hour’s drive away.
Ernest Kleinwort Court has three adapted
vehicles for the use of residents.

involving residents
We tailor our services to the individual. We respect privacy
and recognise the right to choice, dignity, independence and fulfilment.
We actively encourage residents to take part in the running
of the home. The monthly Residents Committee is a forum for discussing individual
needs or requests. Visitors are welcomed at all times.
